Former Jeffersonville Police chief announces bid for Clark County Sheriff's race
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Former Jeffersonville Police Chief Kenny Kavanaugh has announced he is entering the race for Clark County Sheriff.
Kavanaugh, a Republican, is entering the race after serving in southern Indiana for 32 years.
“Filing to run for the Sheriff of Clark County is first an honor and secondly a commitment that carries the willingness to serve," Kavanaugh said in a news release Friday. "The passion is from the heart to meet the expectations of the people of Clark County exhibited by daily leadership and professionalism, and integrity which builds and fosters communal trust."
n August, 2025, Kavanaugh announced he would be stepping down from his role within the Jeffersonville Police Department.
He said the city was struggling to implement Indiana's new Senate Bill 1, which capped how much property tax bills can go up in the future. However, it also meant a large cut in revenue for local government services and schools who rely, in some part, on property taxes.
